Let's go.

Hello, and welcome back to another episode of the Embrace Your Real podcast. Today, we're talking about my five secrets for staying motivated. I am not motivated every single day. Let's be real. Is there any human on the face of this planet that is actually motivated every, stinking day? Not likely. But here's the thing. Since we can't and we won't always be motivated, we have to figure out how to keep pushing forward, regardless of the motivation we may or may not be lacking.

So I have some secrets that I have created to help me have motivation, even when I'm not feeling it. And I can almost guarantee that these secrets will help you to find motivation, no matter what your attitude is.

But before I dive into this episode, it would mean the absolute world to me if you quickly pressed pause on this episode and took a moment to subscribe to the podcast. That way you will always be notified when new episodes release, and you will never miss an episode. Plus, subscribing to the podcast greatly helps the growth of the podcast, so thank you, thank you, thank you.

Okay, let's get into this episode. Secret number one: You have to stop relying on your emotions. Here's what happens when you start using motivation alongside your emotions. When your emotions are high, your motivation is high. But when your emotions are low, your motivation will be low.

Motivation needs to come from habit, not your emotions. When they come from habit, it doesn't matter what your emotions are because you can always find the motivation within that habit. And when I say habit, I don't mean just sticking with it for 21 days. To create a real, lasting, sustainable habit, you need at least 60 to 90 days for it to successfully become ingrained as a habit in your life.

These habits could be meal prepping. This could be setting out your clothes the night before for your workout. This could be waking up an hour early, journaling, anything that helps you do what you need to do.

When the habit is there, then the motivation will be there because your habits, you can always depend on. Those habits are not driven by motivation. They're driven by routine. Do you see the difference?

Secret number two: You have to find what makes you thrive. Here's the truth. If you hate moving your body, it means you haven't found movement that makes you thrive. I can guarantee that there is movement out there that you will love to do and look forward to doing it. It will make you excited and happy, all the things. You just need to find it.

So, what type of movement makes you thrive? Is it weight training? Is it yoga? Is it spin class? Is it biking outside? Is it jogging? Is it running? What is it that makes you thrive? Ask yourself that question. Ultimately, when you are doing the thing that gets you excited, that will make you feel on top of the world. And you're more likely to do it and stay consistent with it when you are actually liking it.

And one thing with this that I wanted to touch on is, movement's going to look different in every season of your life. Maybe one season right now is so busy, and the workouts that you used to do, maybe you don't have time to do those anymore, or maybe you don't have the excitement anymore. It's okay to switch things up. It's okay to allow yourself to explore other forms of movement.

For me, when I finally got outside of the box of "movement is just working out inside of a gym," it is allowed me to look at movement so much more differently, and it has actually fueled my workouts.

For example, I love hiking, and I love doing things outdoors, especially in the spring and summertime in Colorado, because it is absolutely beautiful. So, when I'm moving my body in my basement gym, I am looking forward to the times that I'm able to hike outside. And I'm reminding myself that the weight training and the training that I'm doing in my basement gym is actually training me for amazing experiences outside. It's going to allow me to perform better when I'm hiking and have more energy, with my boys to keep up with than when macro swimming and [Ko 00:04:29] is running around, and Josh is exploring everywhere.

So, I just want to remind you that movement might look different from day to day. It might look different from season to season, and that's why you have to be super in tune with finding movement that makes you thrive.

Secret number three: Find a tribe of people and connect with them hard. I don't mean your family. I mean people who are on the same track as you, who are committed to bettering themselves every day, who are all like-minded, who are on the same journey, who have similar habits that they want to cultivate, and who are motivated to live a healthy lifestyle.

We truly are the average of the five people we associate with most. So if we associate most with people who aren't motivated or people who aren't honoring their bodies or people who aren't nourishing their body or making that a priority, or aren't committed to a healthy lifestyle or whose habits don't align with the ones that we want to cultivate, we'll likely be less motivated.

But when we're surrounded by others who have made it a habit, it will make it so much more simple for us to do it as well. They will push us, motivate us, and encourage us on the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Because if they're doing it, we're going to want to do it alongside of them as well.

Secret number four: Focus on what you want most, not what you want right now. Let's be real. Right now, you might want to sit on the couch and Netflix and chill. Right now, you might want to make all the excuses in the world as to why you shouldn't work out. You might right now want to overindulge because you're stressed or tired, or you just want to use food to soothe you. Maybe that's what you want to do right now.

But what do you want most? What you likely want most is to have energy, is to feel confident in your skin, is to feel your strongest physically, mentally, spiritually, is to build the body and lifestyle that you want. You need to choose the options that align with what you want most. This means saying, "Yes" to things that get you closer to what you want most and quit solely focusing on what you want right now.

Secret number five: Just do it. We need to stop overthinking it and stop making things a choice. Honoring your body. Don't let it be a choice. Nourishing your body with what it needs. Don't let it be a choice. Make it something that you do, because when it's not a choice, you won't overthink it. Whether you're feeling it or not, whether you have the motivation or not, whether you have the energy or not, you will do those things because it's not even a choice. You just do it. And when you remind yourself over and over again, that this is what you want most, it becomes the absolute answer in that moment.

So let me recap those five things. Secret number one. Stop relying on your emotions. Secret number two. Find what makes you thrive. Secret number three. Find a tribe of people and connect with them hard. Secret number four. Focus on what you want most, not what you want right now. And secret number five. Just do it.
