Hello, and welcome back to the Embrace Your Real Podcast. I am so grateful that you are here spending some time with me today. So I want to let you in on a little secret. Most mornings, when I say most, I would say probably 95% of the time, I wake up in the morning feeling rested, refreshed, and ready and excited for my day. But it hasn't always been like this. I've actually reprogrammed my subconscious brain, and this is something I'm going to be sharing with you. It's a quick, three step process. And so before we dive into how I wake up with more energy in the day, I have to share this super sweet review of the day.
It comes from Kiersten C. She says, "Julie is incredibly inspiring. I've been following Julie on social media for a while now, and I was also once subscribed to her workout, highly recommend it. I just recently started listening to her podcast and I love it. It's cleanly edited, consistent volume, and valuable content. She's inspiring and uplifting and gives a fresh perspective on mental and physical health. Keep up the good work, Julie. I am a big fan." Thank you so much, Kiersten, for the review of the day. If you haven't already rated and reviewed the podcast, it takes less than 30 seconds. All you've got to do is press pause, scroll all the way down, and click that rate and review on Apple Podcasts. It really does help us out. And if you do, please screenshot it and send it to me in a DM, and I want to personally respond back and just connect with you and say thank you.
All right. Let's be real. Is there anyone on this planet who loves waking up to the sound of their phone making that obnoxious noise? You know what I'm talking about? It's like that mer, mer, mer. I hate it, and it gives me so much anxiety. It typically wakes us up in this state of stress. And unfortunately, how we feel immediately when we wake up can set the tone for the entire day. So if we want to wake up feeling more peaceful, more energy, more excitement, we have to start out the day like that. If we're being woken up by an alarm clock, typically it's likely that our body's not ready to wake up, and that's what makes us feel so tired. We're abruptly being woken up, or we are constantly pressing that snooze button, which is triggering something in our brain to tell us that either, number one, that's how we're going to go throughout our day, just constantly pressing the snooze, putting important things off, and that's what's going to make us be tired throughout the day. Or that's what's going to allow us to not wake up with the maximum amount of excitement and energy for the day.
What if you could wake up in the morning feeling more peaceful, feeling like you didn't need that annoying alarm clock to stress you out? What if you could train your body, and more importantly, your mind, to naturally wake you up at a certain time in the morning? That is actually what I'm going to be talking about today. And I know it sounds crazy. In fact, when I posted this up on my Instagram story, I don't think I've ever gotten this much response to something. There were so many people that were like, "Yes, I've tried it." And then so many people that were skeptical, which was me. For so long, I was like, "There's no way that this is going to work."
But I'm here to tell you that I wake up without an alarm clock. And I'm going to give you the three easy steps, so that you can test this out tomorrow morning and tell me how it goes. All right, so step number one, you have to set the time that you are going to wake up. So for me, I typically like to ensure that I get anywhere from seven to eight hours of sleep on a normal night. Right? So on a normal day, I like to make sure that I get at least seven to eight hours, so I'll pick whatever I'm feeling, so if that's seven hours, if it's eight hours, whatever. I will take the time that I'm going to go to sleep, and then I will add seven hours to it, and that will be my wake up time.
So let's say for example, it's 6:23 AM. So that is the wake up time, very specific in my mind, that I want to wake up. Number two, this is where I though it was kind of woo woo because I was like, "All right. This sounds crazy." But I also went into it with an open mind because I was like, "If this works, this is going to be life changing," but you have to declare this wake up time out loud to your subconscious brain. And this is exactly what I say out loud. I declare to my subconscious brain that I will wake up at 6:23 AM tomorrow morning. And I also typically add, I will feel rested, energized, and excited for the day. Say that out loud anywhere from five to 12 times, it depends. Honestly, for me, the first time I did it, I said it 15 times because I was like, "There's no way, but I'm going to keep saying it over and over and over again."
And what's crazy is when you say something out loud over and over and over again, you actually start to believe it. And that's a part of reprogramming your subconscious brain because your subconscious brain, when you say it out loud, and then you say it with repetition, that's when your subconscious brain triggers it as, oh, this is important. So demanding it out loud, I demand my subconscious brain to wake me up at 6:23 AM tomorrow morning. I will feel rested, energized, and excited for the day. So say that anywhere from five to 12 times, or if you're like me on the first couple times, I was like, "I'm going to say this 15 times."
And step number three is you have to visualize yourself waking up at that time, feeling what you want to feel. And if you've never dove into visualization, it is incredible. And so many athletes and high performers use visualization. There's tons of books and tons of videos about it, how important it is to visualize yourself going through the motions to help you accomplish a goal, or whatever you set out to do, because when you can vividly imagine it, your subconscious brain helps you in that moment to actually make sure that it comes true. So for me, I don't sleep with my phone in my room. I've talked about this before. I sleep with it in my bathroom, which is connected to our room. But we do have a clock in our room, so what I do is I visualize myself rolling over, opening my eyes, and seeing that time that I set to wake up, so for me, 6:23 AM. I visualize myself, and I go through this visualization anywhere from two, to three, to four times.
So I'll visualize myself rolling over, opening my eyes, and looking at the clock, and having it say 6:23 AM. I visualize myself. What am I going to feel? How am I going to feel when I wake up? I want to feel energized. I want to feel ready to take on the day. I want to feel excited. I go through that visualization and I allow myself to truly feel it. So those are the three steps to waking up feeling energized, excited, ready to tackle the day, without an alarm clock. And I know you're probably like, "Julie, this sounds crazy." Trust me, I was in your shoes, and I was like, "This is crazy. This is not going to work." But I was committed to it. And I told myself, "Okay. I'm going to go into this with an open mind. I'm going to trust that this is going to work. I'm going to trust that my subconscious brain and my intuition is much, much, much smarter than I give it credit for." And guess what, it worked.
Sometimes, for some people, it works on the first try. Other times, it will take two to three times. You guys, it should take no longer than three times if you're truly going through all of these steps. So number one, you're setting your wake up time. Number two, you're declaring it out loud that you are going to wake up at that time, to your subconscious brain, anywhere from five to 12 times. And number three, you're going through that visualization of whatever it's going to look like for you to roll over, open your eyes, look at the clock, and have it say that with you feeling energized, rested, excited, and ready to take on the day.
So my challenge to you is to try this. And if you are like me, and you were a little skeptical, you can even set, if you want to set your wake up time to be five or 10 minutes before what your alarm clock would be, just to test it out, you can do that. But I'm telling you to go in this without an open mind. And I'm asking you to trust your intuition. I'm asking you to trust your subconscious brain because think about this. Think about all the times you've gotten from place A to place B driving, and then you get to place B, and you're like, "I don't even really remember driving." That's your subconscious brain. You've already created the habit. You've taught yourself how to do it. Your subconscious brain takes over and it basically drives for you. So those are the times where you don't even remember driving from place A to place B, and you're like, "That's kind of scary."
It's actually not, in the sense of, we have to just place more trust in ourselves and know that our subconscious brain can be rewired to work in our favor. It just takes some intentionality behind it. So I want you to try this tomorrow morning, and I want to hear how it goes. So screenshot this. Post it up on your story. Tag me. I would love to hear your experience. If you have two or three girlfriends, or people in your life, that you feel like they could benefit from this, I just encourage you to send it out. Trust in the power of your subconscious brain because, girl, you have not even scratched the surface. And when you can show yourself and prove to yourself, okay, wow, my subconscious brain is so much smarter than I give it credit for, you can do this in so many other areas, gaining more confidence, accomplishing more things, so many other areas of your life, you can tap into your subconscious brain.
