Speaker 1: [00:00:00] Hey. Hey, beautiful human. Can I steal 5 minutes of your time? I have something super important to share with you, but I promise I'll be really quick. You're listening to my weekly bonus episode of Embrace Your Role with Me, Julie Ledbetter. I'm about to give you a quick tip for building your confidence, honoring your body, and unconditionally loving your authentic self. Stay tuned. If you're ready to embrace a real. Let's get it. Let's go. Hello and welcome back to another bonus episode. I think that we often look at movement as a means to an end. Like a way to lose more weight, but movement can be so much more. And I think that we need to start looking at movement through a different lens, not just a weight loss lens. Exercise is a powerful tool for truly promoting a positive relationship with your body and boosting self-confidence. And so that's what we're going to be discussing in today's bonus episode. But before we dive in, I want to share this review. It comes from H.R. Nan. She gave a five star review and said, Love, love, love. I love this podcast. Julie is so positive and I cannot wait to listen to new episodes each week. This podcast has helped me so much, both mentally and physically. I was a chronic yo yo dieter for years and unknowingly stayed in a low caloric deficit. I was very active and loved lifting but never saw the results that I wanted. After hearing Julie's advice on reverse dieting and properly nourishing your body, I started a reverse diet of my own and have gotten so much stronger. It feels great to finally be fueling my body properly. Thank you, Julie. I couldn't have done it without your kind words and encouragement. Well, I love this so much. I'm so grateful that you are not only nourishing your body, but you discovered the tool of reverse dieting. Episode 46 if you are interested on that. I did a whole episode on that, but reassigning has singlehandedly transformed my life and my metabolism, and I really genuinely believe that every single person should at least do one reverse diet in their life. I think it was a super impactful time and season in my life. I've actually done four thus far. The time of this recording I've done for full reverse diets in the last 11 years and they are awesome. So anyways, thank you so much for tuning in to the podcast. Thank you for leaving a reading interview. If you could scooch over to Apple Podcasts and leave rating interview, or if you're a Spotify listener, you can just type in, embrace your real first, make sure you're following, and then also you can leave a rating on Spotify that really does help us out. So thank you in advance for doing that. Let's dive into the five ways that I believe movement can really increase your self-confidence that have nothing to do with weight loss. Number one exercise promotes body acceptance. So by focusing on what your body can do rather than what it looks like, I believe that it can shift your perspective from negativity to gratitude and appreciation. Like exercise can also really help you feel more connected to your body and promote a greater sense of physical self-awareness, which in turn can lead to a greater, you know, self esteem, greater body positivity. And really, as you come to understand and appreciate the amazing things that your body is capable of through movement, I think that just gives us so much more self-awareness when it comes to our body and especially pushing ourselves in in our workouts or doing something that, you know, maybe we never have done before. And I think that it can just open your eyes in that sense. And that's why I love personally just focusing on honoring my body with movement and really celebrating my body for everything that I can do rather than the physical changes or specifically weight loss. I think that that's just such a shallow view of movement. And movement is so much more than that. Number two, exercise can really boost your self-confidence. Like I was mentioning earlier, it's a powerful tool for boosting self-confidence. Like when you exercise, you're really challenging yourself to push your limits and this can be incredibly empowering and it can really lead you to feeling more confident because this translates outside of your workouts. Like when you push yourself in your workouts, you learn to push yourself in life. And once you start to feel more confident in your workouts, you really can start to feel more confident in your life. So whether it's a feeling of accomplishment that you get after a challenging workout or the sense of pride that comes with hitting a PR or a personal record, the exercise itself, movement itself can help you feel more confident in your skin and in your life, which in my opinion, is a win win. Number three, exercise really increases energy levels, right? Another key benefit of exercise for self-confidence and really feeling the best in your skin is that it increases energy levels like regular exercise has been shown to improve sleep, reduce stress levels, increase energy levels. And when you feel more energetic, you're likely going to feel good about yourself and about your body. So whether you're busy, professional or you're a stay at home mama, having more energy can really help you feel more motivated and productive. And when you feel more motivated and productive, as well as being more energized, you're going to feel better about yourself. And your life as a result. Number four exercise can really help manage stress, movement and mental health. Go hand in hand. Let me say it again Movement and mental health go hand in hand. Regular exercise has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, and it can really help you better cope with stress and challenges in your life. Because here's the truth When we feel anxious or when we feel depressed or stressed, we put it on our body or we blame it on our body. It's the easiest thing that we turn to, which means by providing ourselves with a healthy outlet for stress and emotions, we can actually feel better about our bodies and feel better about ourselves and help to manage the stress as well. And number five, exercise can give us more metrics to measure aside from the number on the scale, I personally believe that looking at this scale can really diminish our relationship with our self, especially if that's something that it's a trigger for you. If that's the case, there are so many other ways and so many other factors that we can celebrate instead of the number on the scale. For example, you can track what you're lifting in your workouts. This is one of the most empowering things that I see women do inside, Julie, is when they feel this sense of accomplishment, of lifting the X amount of pounds that it says, like when you log your workout inside, the app says, Congratulations, this is what you did, and it shows kind of the summary of your workout. It is so cool to see women chasing a number that is like bigger every time, because I think that in the health and fitness world it's constant chase after, you know, the number on the scale. We want it less. We want to be a less pant size. We want we want to shrink, shrink, shrink change again, it's all about like lessening numbers. And to see women get so excited and so passionate about chasing like heavier and heavier and more and more is so empowering. And I think that it will really just allows you to celebrate something aside from this number that, you know, in every other metric, we're trying to be less and less and less. And I think that it's just empowering to see the amount of weight that you lift in your workouts. It's like, man, nothing compares to that. Nothing. I also think that, you know, it allows you movement, allows you to keep track of your consistency and you can celebrate how consistent you've been. Instead of stepping on a scale each night, you can actually instead give your give yourself a checkmark for the movement that you're getting in each day, which can feel super empowering. And it's just it's another metric aside from that number that can be so triggering for so many women. I did a full episode on kind of why I personally don't weigh myself regularly because I think that it can be a trigger. I did a whole episode on this. It's episode 256 five Ways to monitor your Progress Without the Scale. So if the scale is it triggering object for you and your health and fitness goal or you find yourself obsessed with it, I need you to step off it like there are so many other ways that you can monitor your progress and track your results without ever having to step on a scale. So I will link that in the show notes below. Episode 256 five Ways to Monitor Your Progress Without This Scale. But there you have it. Those are the five ways that I believe movement and exercise can really increase your self-confidence. So let me recap them. Number one, exercise promotes body acceptance. Number two, exercise boosts self-confidence. Number three, exercise increases energy levels. Number four, exercise can help to manage stress and anxiety and depression, increase cortisol levels. And lastly, number five, exercise can give us more metrics to measure aside from the number on the scale. All in all, I'm a firm believer in movement honoring your body with movement. I believe it can genuinely change the way that you feel about yourself. There is so much that I've learned just from pushing myself in movement that encourages me and challenges me to push in other areas of my life. And I genuinely I'm a firm believer that what happens in the work ethic that you have in your workouts and the movement that you do on a day to day, week to week basis does translate into the rest of your life. So I encourage you to start honoring your body with movement and really looking at movement as just a tool to help you increase your overall self-confidence as well as just man gratitude and appreciation for everything that our body is and does for us. So that is all that I have for today's episode. If you have someone in your life that you feel like would benefit from this episode, you can share it out with them.
