4 Important Reminders For When You Feel Like You Aren't Doing Enough

When it comes to building the body we want, we think we aren’t doing enough. We think that more is better and the more that we do the better results we will see. So for the woman who thinks she isn’t doing enough, I have a few reminders to share with you in this episode of Embrace Your Real.

Four Reminders I talked about:

  1. Just because you’re not seeing results immediately doesn’t mean what you’re doing isn’t working and you need to do “more” or “change things up”.

  2. What other women are doing or did to accomplish the goals you want to achieve is not necessarily the steps you need to follow.

  3. Recognize this self-inflicted pressure and release the valve.

  4. Realize that more is not always better.

Or the more that we do, the better results will see. So for the woman who is feeling like you're just not doing enough, I wanted to share a quick, real talk bonus episode with some reminders that will hopefully help you put this into a better and more realistic perspective and also just give you that sister two sister heart talk. So that is what we're going to be diving into in today's bonus episode. Before I dove in, you know, I had to share this review of the day comes from TracyD1992. She gave a five star review and said, My favorite podcast. I have been doing the same old dumbbell workouts for a while, but not consistently. I found Julie on Pinterest last week and downloaded the Julie app this morning. I am also loving this podcast and how you incorporate your faith into your passion for helping others. It really does bless us and it helps us so much in the podcast world.

Okay, so four important reminders when you feel like you aren't doing enough. Number one, just because you're not seeing results immediately does not mean that what you're doing isn't working or that you need to do more or that you need to change things up. You have to know that we live in a culture where it has become the standard for things to happen instantly. You can order your groceries online and literally within 1 to 2 hours have them at your doorstep. You can order new clothes for your workout and get them the next day. Anything that you want is literally at your fingertips now. Unfortunately, though, this mentality has really bled over into our mentality when it comes to our health and fitness.

And since we're so used to that instant gratification of getting what we want as fast as we want it, we think that this should apply to our bodies as well. And this really unfortunately causes us to want to do and follow these quick fix diets that give us these quick fix results. So when someone starts to nourish their body or honor their body and break free from that fad dieting or the quick fix solution, it still feels really weird to them that they're not seeing instant results. And this oftentimes leads them to thinking that what they're doing is wrong or what they're doing isn't working, or that they need to move on to the next available thing if they want to see results. Or on the flip side, they think maybe what they're doing is good, but they could always be doing more right. They need to be doing more of what they're doing in order to see better results. So thinking that they are obsessing about their food, maybe if I just obsess a little bit more, maybe if I spend a little bit more on obsessing about food, that will help. Or maybe if I spend a little bit more in my workouts, that will help. And this just isn't the case. It honestly more is not always better. And in this case, more is not going to lead you anywhere but deprivation and overtraining. So all of this to say is that if you are nourishing your body with what it needs and you're giving it the proper amount of protein, carbs and fats at your body needs based on where you're at and what your goals are, as well as honoring your body with the movement and doing, you know, at least three days of resistance training a week, you're going to see results. It's inevitable that you will see results. But instead of thinking that you need to do more or thinking that you need to switch up what you're doing, I need you to actually focus your effort on how consistent you're being. Because here's the thing. The problem usually is not what we're doing. It's how consistent we are being with what we're doing.

Consistency is everything. If you are consistent, you will see results. You just need to be patient. You need to keep moving forward and trust that you're doing all of the right things and whatever results you're looking for, have faith that it's coming to you in the proper timing number to what other women are doing or did to accomplish the goals that you want to achieve is not necessarily the steps that you need to follow. Now, I know that social media makes us feel like we're not doing enough in literally every aspect. Of our lives. But it can also make us feel like we're not doing enough when it comes to building the body that we want. I want to make a few points on here. So the first being that what we see on social media is not the entire picture. Someone could only be showing their good habits or someone could only be acting, you know, like something is more of a habit than it actually is. You don't really know what they're doing in actuality, in real life, on a day to day basis. Second of all, we all have our own unique paths. And comparing your journey to somebody else's journey, or better yet, copying someone else's journey will not help you in any way. What works for one person will not work for another person. For example, if I eat the same exact macros as you, my body would still end up looking completely different because two things.

Number one, I likely have a likely a different age. I'm likely a different height, I'm likely a different body weight. I likely have different habits than you when it comes to my movement and all of those things. And what I need for my body is different from what you need for your body. Remember that we need to break this belief that we can just copy and paste to see amazing results. And third of all, many women do not have healthy habits. Many of the women that I see on social media do not have a healthy relationship with fitness and food. But we see them and we think that we need to replicate what they're doing or we need to do more of what they're doing because they're doing it. But if we do more, then will develop a poor relationship with food and fitness. It's so, so important that you are self-aware in that situation, and I have led myself down these horrible, toxic paths because I'll be following someone on social media. And this is especially like when I was not educated, when it came to the amount that my body needed for food, especially, I would literally try to copy and paste these women that I would see on Pinterest or social media, and it would lead me down this road. And it was making my relationship with food and fitness worse and worse and worse. And fourth of all, many women you have to remember this, many women that you are following on social are doing quick fix solutions. We do not want to copy them. If this is what they're doing, that weight that they might be losing quickly, you have to remember, will be gained back just as quickly, if not faster, and if not more. So you have to stop letting what other women are doing dictate what you're doing. You need to do what is best for your body. You need to do what is best for your mind, your schedule, your energy, and your sanity.

Number three Recognize this self-inflicted pressure and release the valve. Remember that you are the only one putting pressure on yourself to do more. You are the one that is making you feel like what you're doing is not enough. So it's up to you to let go of that pressure. Take that pressure off yourself. The best way to do this is to realize that if you are nourishing your body with what it needs and you're honoring your body with movement 3 to 5 times a week, you're doing enough. Let that be enough. That is all that you need to see. Results. Nothing more, truly. Well, okay. A few more things. Getting enough sleep and drinking enough water and not trying to stress as much. But that is literally all that you need to do to see results. There is absolutely no reason to deprive yourself of more food. There's absolutely no need for you to spend more time at the gym that you don't have or that you don't want to. Just focus on being consistent, take the pressure off of yourself, and when you do, you will actually see that results will come and they'll come and you'll be more peaceful as well.

And number four, realize that more is not always better. Like I mentioned earlier, when it comes to weight loss, especially in building the body that you want, more is not always better. More caloric restriction can actually lead to hormonal imbalances, a slow metabolism in your body clinging on to more fat. More exercise can lead to overtraining, which can actually lead to hormone issues, slow metabolism and your body clinging on to more fat. Are you catching what I'm throwing? Plus, the more that you do, the more you're going to hate it and the more likely you will actually drop off of these habits. If you go overboard, it's super hard to maintain, and it's not going to be something that you can stick with long term. And if you don't stick with that long term, you're not going to see the lasting results. So again, consistency is key. The only thing that you should be doing more of is trying to be more consistent with that sustainable habits and that sustainable routine that you already have implemented into your day to day.

So let me recap those four reminders. Number one, just because you're not seeing results immediately doesn't mean what you're doing isn't working or that you need to do more or change things up. Number two, what other women are doing or did to accomplish the goals that you want to achieve is not nice. Sincerely the steps that you need or should follow. Number three. Recognize the self-inflicted pressure and release the valve. And number four, realize that more is not always better. That is all that I have for today's bonus episode.
