[00:00:29] Hello and welcome back to the first bonus episode of 2024. Now that it is the new Year, so many of you guys are wanting to get back on track. And I know that getting on track for many of you means following a fad diet. Because if there's one thing that I've learned over being in this dieting mentality for over a decade of my life is that every single new year came around. I would tell myself, you know, I'm going to go on this year, and I would make these justifications for myself because after a while, you know, you're about to go on a fad diet. You know, what you're looking into is likely not sustainable, but you keep just, you know, putting all these justifications on it. But I need you to listen up. The global weight loss market is estimated to be worth over 300 billion. Yes, that's where a be driven mostly by the popularity of fad diets, especially in January and February of every single new year. The thing is, we are fed so much marketing, so many false testimonials, so many lies about what fad diets can do for us. And it drives us to follow and spend countless money on these fad diets when in fact they don't actually work. They never really did in the first place long term. Right. All they're doing is harming our health and making it harder for us to actually build the body that we want. And we're spending so much money in the process. If you don't believe me, I'm about to share some crazy shocking stats with you about fad diets in today's bonus episode that I believe will help to change your mind. I wholeheartedly believe that fad diets are not the solution, and I'm here to prove it to you. Before we dive in, though, I want to share this review. It comes from JessDear76. She gave a five star review and said, inspiring, informative and uplifting. This has quickly become my favorite podcast. So inspiring, informative and uplifting. Such great information that is relatable to everyone. Listening to Julie has totally changed my mindset, which is in turn changed so many things in my life for the better. Thank you, Julie, for sharing your wisdom with us and caring for us so much. I love this so much. Thank you so much for all of your videos. They genuinely mean the world to me and now that we are in a new year. I'm going to ask you if you could switch over to Apple Podcasts and leave a rating interview, even if you have done in the past, if you could leave another one or maybe there's a specific episode, you know, in the last few months that you've tuned into that just really impacted you or made you think differently? I would love to hear it. Our team would love to hear it, and it also helps people who stumble upon the podcast. Maybe someone recommended it, or maybe they're just searching the explore page, you know, on podcasts and they see it a lot of times before people choose to tune in, they check out their reviews first. So if you could scooch over at Apple Podcasts and do that, that would mean the world. For all my Spotify listeners, you can actually rate the podcast. So if you just type in, embrace your email, you'll be able to see that rate by and also make sure that you're following the show so that it directly goes to your feed every single week and just downloads automatically for you to tune in to. All right! So let's dive into the three shocking things that you need to know about fad diets. Number one, this might not be shocking, but the statistics that I'm about to share with you are fad diets don't bring long term results. Up to 80% of people who lose weight on a fad diet regain it within five years. And what's crazy is that is not the most shocking statistic. Studies show that within a year, most yo yo dieters regain 30 to 65% of the weight that they initially lost. This means that if you lose 10 pounds on a diet, you can expect to regain six and a half to 7 pounds within a year if you return to your previous eating habits. What's even more shocking is up to 50% of yo yo dieters end up weighing more than their starting weight in the long run. And this we can regain can even be higher for individuals who cycle through multiple diets over time. And to dig a little bit deeper. One study focused on people doing the Atkins diet and found no weight loss after six months. And another study found that only 3 to 4% of participants stayed below their baseline weight. I don't know about you, but I want lasting results, not temporary results. And I'm sure you do too. So guess what? Fad diets aren't going to bring you those lasting results that you want. Which leads me to number two. Fad diets are impossible to stick to. Long term fad diets are often called quick fix solutions for a reason, because they're extremely difficult to make it a lifestyle, not even make it healthy to actually make it a lifestyle. There's actually a study done on Keto and the Keto diet and found that only 2% of people on keto have been on it consistently for five years. Studies have also shown. Over 50% of people abandon the Keto diet within a year, finding it too restrictive and challenging to maintain. And then one other study found that the adherence to the ketogenic diet dropped to 53% after six months and 30% after 12 months. The stats are very similar for all different fad diets out there. And the thing is, why do you want to live a life where you are constantly fighting to stay on track? Right. You're constantly falling off track. You're constantly trying to get yourself back on track. Don't you just want to find something that works that you can actually easily stick to long term? You no longer have to stress about it or think about it. I know you do. So please, please, Ester, do not hop on that fad diet. I beg you, speaking from experience. Experience. It is not worth it. The goal is to create long term habits that have long term results. Fad diets will never give you that. They're only going to be impossible to stick to. And that's where you're going to ruin your health along the way. Which leads me to number three. Fad diets mess up your metabolism. When you lose weight, your body's metabolism slows down in an attempt to conserve energy. I've talked about this a lot in the podcast, but I really need you to understand this. Fad diets crash your metabolism, and this is one of the main reasons why people end up gaining more weight after they go on a fad diet. And to prove this. One study showed that participants who lost weight on a low carb diet and then regained it had a 25% lower metabolic rate. Right. Your metabolic rate is essentially the rate at which your body burns calories. Another study found that people who cycled through multiple fad diets over five years had a 50% higher risk of developing metabolic syndrome. So essentially, metabolic syndrome is a cluster of health conditions, including high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol that occur together, which increases your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, type two diabetes and other serious health problems in the long term. Most of us don't think about what these fad diets are doing to us long term because we're just thinking about today, tomorrow, and maybe the next week. But remember that what you do to your body today can actually change your health 20 years from now. And you need to take this way more seriously. And this can be in a positive way or a negative way having a slower metabolism or metabolic rate. This makes it harder for you to maintain your weight loss once you resume your regular diet. But here's the thing You shouldn't be following a diet where you have to return to your regular diet. You should develop nutritional habits that you maintain for the remainder of your life, Right. Not be popping back, back and forth, triggering triggering your metabolism to get all messed up. So you're like, okay, you just gave me all of these statistics where, you know, clearly these fad diets are not working long term. You know, three months later, six months later, a year later. So what should I do instead? Well, if you've been listening me to me for any length of time, you likely know what I'm going to say, but I'm going to say it anyways, because oftentimes we need to hear the same thing a thousand times before it actually sticks. You need to give your body what it needs. Give your body what it needs. It's as simple as that. Give your body the carbs it needs. Give your body the protein it needs, Give your body the fat that it needs without restriction, without feeling deprived, without struggling, without giving up your favorite foods. And this is why I am so keen on utilizing the tool of macro accounting. I don't need a fad diet to build the body that I want. I just need to nourish my body with what it needs. It's genuinely that simple. I can eat whatever I want so long as I learn to fit it into my macronutrients. Right. My protein, carbs and fats for my daily allotment I have built and maintain the body that I want for over. I would say I've been in this now for ten years. I would say 7 to 8 of those years I've been able to maintain the body that I want. And it's really like that. Easy buy. Can you imagine that? Can you imagine not yo yo dieting ever again? Can you imagine not having to live in a weight loss mode where you're constantly focused on losing weight? Can you imagine where you're maintaining the body that you want for seven, eight, ten years and not having to waste your energy on fad diets? Can you imagine putting that energy to other aspects of your life? Can you imagine living your life for seven, eight, nine, ten years, feeling amazing in the body that you're in, knowing that you do not have to go back to any sort of regular diet because you've been able to maintain it, just doing what you're doing, eating the foods that you love in moderation. I am here to tell you it is possible. I am walking proof. I've worked with thousands of women to work for you to see that it is walking proof. And so if you want to learn more about how to get. Started with macro accounting. I do have a program for that. You can learn all about it by going to macro accounting made simple dot com. But I'm telling you I want 2024 to be the year where you never, ever ever have to yo yo diet again. You learn how to properly feel your body. You recognize when something is a fad diet because I'm telling you, these marketers, these companies are getting so incredibly smart now with telling you that it's not a diet telling you upfront, Oh, this is not a fad diet. And then you look behind the scenes and you realize it is you realize it's a meal plan. You realize that they're not educating you. They're completely cutting, you know, these whole food groups out. And and then you get into it and you're like, man, this is not sustainable. I don't want that for you. I want you to learn how to properly fuel your body. And that's exactly what that course is going to do. So if you want to learn more, gain access, you can go to macro accounting made simple dot com. And if you're not convinced yet that macro accounting isn't just another fad diet, don't worry. I've done a whole episode on this episode 3138 Reasons why macro accounting is Not a fat Diet. So I'll go ahead and link that so you can go tune into that next. I really go into the nitty gritty of macro accounting and I compare it to a fad diet and you're going to get to that end of that episode where I feel like you're going to be a lot more educated on macro accounting and recognize that it is a tool and that it teaches you how to properly feel your body, not what to properly fuel your body with in terms of just a meal plan. And of course, we're going to share, you know, nutrient dense foods. There are there are so much power and there's so much benefit to micronutrients here, vitamins and minerals, but also recognize that we are living our life. And that means that there's going to be parties, there's going to be date nights, there's going to be vacations. And so just recognizing those things ahead of time and learning how to properly feel your body can be so beneficial and set you up for so much success in 2024, which is ultimately what I want for you.
